First, we have to find reasonable destinations. There are going to be a huge number of planets in the Milky Way. Some will already be habitable, some probably already inhabited, others completely outside the habitable zone. All of them are possibilities, although some better choices than others.

Once we find a destination, we need to figure out how to get there. And, depending on whether we pick a cold rock, a hot rock, a habitable planet, or an already-inhabited planet, we may need to alter the planet (and possibly ourselves) in order to make it into a place where we can live.
