The first step to spreading humanity throughout the cosmos will most likely be orbital habitats: places to live and work in Earth orbit. These habitats will most likely come in all shapes and sizes. Due to their proximity, it will be easy for people to travel between Earth and the habitats, or from one habitat to another.
