A more active month in February, with a more than 144% increase in traffic to the website. This was primarily attributable to two factors: more activity in the blog, and our first advertising (a Google AdWords campaign, described below). Here is what progress we made:
Financials
Still no income. The only source of income the site has (for now) is Google AdSense, and there still has not been enough traffic (and nobody clicking on links, in spite of 793 ad impressions this month) to bring in any revenue. The $50 we started the Google AdWords campaign with has been our most significant expense to date, and without any revenue, it means that so far, we continue to spend more than we are bringing in (although it's not a major problem as yet).
Also no new expenses.
Previous Balance: $-22.24
February Income: $0
February Expenses: $-50.00
Total Cash On Hand: $-72.24
What We've Done
A larger number of blog posts in February has contributed significantly to increasing traffic to the site. We also started a Google AdWords campaign on February 22 which has resulted in 15 clicks, bringing 15 visitors to the site who would not have otherwise come. The money for the campaign came from $50 we have put in out-of-pocket along with a $100 AdWords credit Google generously supplied to us. Over the course of the campaign, more than 1,000 additional visitors will come to the site. Hopefully at least a few will register for membership and begin contributing in our Forums. We need to get some robust discussions going to generate some ideas for how to successfully Get There.
It's a little early to mention this, but in the interest of our goal of 100% transparency, we're going to anyway: we have started the first stages of creating a book detailing the GTFH plan. So far we have little more than an outline, but we have at least started on it.
What's Coming Up
The PayPal tip jar failed to appear on the site at in February, but should be making an appearance this month. Our goal is to use the initial earnings from the jar to join the International Space Elevator Consortium. While we don't necessarily believe that a space elevator is essential to the Plan, we do believe that some form of safe, reliable, and inexpensive orbital access is a must-have for the future of the human race. And since (as far as we know) there is no organization pushing for a rail-gun or maglev launch system, we'll back the organization that is actively doing something to ensure humanity's future.
We'd also like to see some more discussion in our forums, so register for the site and share your thoughts.
