March was our busiest month yet (in terms of traffic, if not in terms of additions to the site). Traffic to the site was up 64 percent, and ad impressions up even more. Most importantly, though, the site posted its first advertising revenues in the month. Unfortunately, activity in terms of additions to the site was pretty slow due to other commitments, resulting in only two additions: a new link where you can contribute to Getting There From Here (in the form of helping us pay for a membership to the International Space Elevator Consortium) and (finally) content added to the Getting Where From Where page.
Financials
As previously mentioned, the site had $3.21 in advertising revenues from Google AdSense. However, because it is Google AdSense, we won't receive a check until the total hits $100. There have been no new expenses in March, so we remain basically where we were last month financially. Hopefully traffic and revenues will continue to grow enough to cover our hosting expenses once our free introductory hosting period runs out later this year.
Also no new expenses.
Previous Balance: $-72.24
March Income: $3.21 ($0.00 cash effect)
March Expenses: $0.00
Total Cash On Hand: $-72.24
What We've Done
We added the contribute page, which so far has resulted in no actual contributions. The goal of the initial contributions will be to join the International Space Elevator Consortium, an organization dedicated to creating an elevator to space.
We also detailed out the Getting Where From Where page, providing a little bit of introductory information about what we're trying to accomplish.
We are also in the middle of adding the site to numerous Internet directories in an attempt to boost traffic, which will hopefully result in increase participation in the forums, where some good ideas have been discussed already.
What's Coming Up
We will continue to add the site to various directories. Also, there will hopefully be some blog posts coming up about SpaceX's first Falcon 9 launch, which is currently scheduled for April 12... and how cool would it be if they managed to successfully launch on that date? I imagine there would be some pretty huge Yuri's Night parties going on in Hawthorne!
We'd also like to see some more discussion in our forums, so register for the site and share your thoughts.
