There are two parts to Getting There From Here: There, and Here.

Here
The "Here" is fairly obvious... it's where we are now—stuck on a single planet in a single star system.

There
"There" is a human race spread throughout the galaxy, on a large number of worlds and even permanent habitats with no world at all.

Getting There
Getting There is going to take a lot of work, and a massive amount of resources. Fortunately, the resources we need are abundant out There. But no government or non-profit organization can get us There by itself. The motivation for a business, though, is profit, and those abundant resources spread throughout the galaxy represent a huge profit potential. For that reason, well-organized and planned business ventures have a much greater chance of success.
